My name is Rolf Ericson, and I am your relative from Sweden. I am currently finalizing a comprehensive family chronicle detailing the lives of our shared ancestors, starting with the forester Nils Peter Ericson and his wife Mathilda Sundin in 19th-century Östergötland.

Your great-great-grandmother, Augusta Amanda Ericson Anderson, was a vital connection that I found in 1979 through my research (and thanks to, Ruth McGee). She, like many of her siblings, chose to seek a new life, a choice often driven by the pursuit of religious freedom and spiritual conviction.

The chronicle explores the powerful role the Great Spiritual Revival played in driving our ancestors’ emigration from Sweden. This spiritual commitment continued in the U.S. Your family line specifically shows this heritage: Augusta Amanda’s husband, Johan Gustaf Andersson, served as a Methodist Pastor—a powerful example of dedication to the Christian faith.

Now, as I document how this faith and spiritual resilience has endured across generations, I would be deeply honored to include your personal voice and experience.

Help Wanted for My Book Project: The Spiritual Roots of My Swedish-American Ancestry!

I am currently working on Chapter 4 of my family chronicle. This chapter is crucial as it explores how the Swedish Revival Movement (The Free Churches like the Baptists, Methodists, and the Mission Covenant) not only shaped life in Östergötland but was also a main driving force behind the great emigration to the US during the 19th century.

I have extensive documentation from the Swedish side, but I now need your help, particularly those with contacts in the US or specialized knowledge of Swedish-American Free Church history.

I am seeking the following information to clearly connect the spiritual shift in Sweden with life in America:

1. US Free Church History: Any written material, articles, or knowledge regarding how quickly and where the Swedish Free Churches (especially Baptists and Methodists) established themselves in the Midwest (e.g., Chicago, Minnesota, Kansas) between the 1870s and 1890s.

2. The "Welcome Factor": Information that illustrates how these churches functioned as a social and spiritual safety net for the newly arrived Swedish emigrants. Did they offer help with housing, language support, or job recommendations?

Dear Relatives,

My book project, which chronicles the descendants of Nils Peter Ericson, is still under construction. The text portion, which currently consists of approximately 50 to 60 pages, is now ready for proofreaders.

For the communication and exchange of text to work smoothly, it is necessary that we use email.

I would therefore like to ask if you are interested in contributing to the flow and content of my text. Your help could consist of:

• Correcting and supplementing factual errors.

• Contributing your own stories and personal memories that can enrich the manuscript.

I hope you will assist me by replying to this message and providing the correct email address that I can use to send the provisional manuscript. The manuscript contains six chapters in Swedish text, with Chapter Two already translated into English. Nowadays, the remaining chapters can be easily translated using tools such as Google Translate.

My intention is to first publish the book in Swedish, but if the interest is sufficient, I also plan to release an English edition with the same content, including both text and images.

Som jag tidigare skrivit, pågår just nu mitt arbete med text och bilder i ett  bokprojekt om farfar August Ericson och det finns några som har fått ta del av textdelen i mitt manus. Det har uppstått vissa problem med överföringen till mina provläsare, men nu har jag konverterat textfilerna, så att de fungerar som redigerbara docx filer. Hoppas snart få bekräftelse från er att allt är läsbart i både telefoner och datorer.

I dag har Arne och jag gått lördagspromenaden en timma med stavar. Lite svårt med snuva och andfåddhet, men man får inte ge upp för det.

I dag har jag vaccinerats på Vårdcentralen Lyckorna för Covid och säsongsinfluensan. Bra att komma ihåg.

Jag arbetar med ett bokprojekt som kommer att handla om mina förfäder på min fars sida. Jag har bland annat gjort en noggrann forskning på min farfars far, Nils Petter (Pelle) Ericson, och både hans förfäder och ättlingar.

I detta projekt har jag haft tillgång till den globala släktforskarsajten Ancestry och fått värdefull information ifrån folkräkningarna i USA och den värdefulla utvärdering av dessa som gjorts på våra släktingar.

Arbetet har pågått i mer än femtio år och just nu har jag ett preliminärt utkast till sex kapitel, komplett med förord och avslutning. Textdelen är, med hjälp av artificiell intelligens, nedbantad till cirka fyrtio till femtio sidor. Till denna del kommer jag att lägga till bilder från mitt fotoarkiv. Många av bilderna finns redan på min hemsida.

Nu söker jag intresserade provläsare!

Jag söker nu efter intresserade släktingar eller nära vänner som är villiga att provläsa mitt manus och ge mig återkoppling. Jag kan då bifoga mitt nuvarande utkast.

Angående bilder: En del bilder vill jag ha hjälp med att ta reda på vem som eventuellt har upphovsrätt. Detta gäller i synnerhet bilder som jag importerat från Ancestry.

An Appeal to Friends and Relatives in Sweden, Denmark, and the USA Interested in My Family History Research!

I am currently working on a book project detailing the history of my paternal ancestors. My research has focused extensively on my great-grandfather, Nils Petter (Pelle) Ericson, tracing both his lineage and his descendants.

This project has been greatly enhanced by utilizing the global genealogy site Ancestry, which provided invaluable data from US censuses and detailed evaluations of our relatives residing in the United States.

This work is the culmination of more than fifty years of research. I now have a preliminary draft consisting of six chapters, including a foreword and conclusion. With the aid of artificial intelligence, the textual component has been condensed to approximately forty to fifty pages. I will be complementing this narrative with images from my photo archive, many of which are already available on my personal website.

Seeking Manuscript Reviewers!

I am currently looking for interested relatives or close friends who are willing to review the manuscript and provide feedback. I will, upon request, send you the current draft.

A Note on Imagery and Copyright: I also need assistance determining the potential copyright holder for some of the images, particularly those I have imported from Ancestry.
